1. Download and install an IRC client. X-Chat for Windows is a good one. It's free and open-source. Use X-Chat Aqua for OSX. GNU/Linux users can install X-Chat through their distribution's package manager.
2. On first run, you should see the Server List dialog box. It's also accessible through File->Serverlist. Enter a nickname and other information as desired.
3. Click the "Add" button to the right of the network list. Enter the server address acm.cse.lehigh.edu/6667. Under "Channels to Join," enter #acm. Set other options as desired. Close this dialog box.
4. Select the newly-created network and click "Connect".
